This will be my second year as Chairperson of the CCA and I can say that my
first year has been an enjoyable experience in trying to make a difference in
the local community. It is amazing what is going on and what potential there
is for further improving village life. We do, however, find ourselves with a
dwindling committee membership. There are now only 15 members with an
average age that is perhaps not in the youngest of bandwidths.
The bonfire was very wet this year and last minute doubts were raised over
whether we should cancel it. In the end, we decided to go ahead and
although the weather tried hard to beat us, it turned out to be a great
night. It had taken a great effort to build the bonfire and get everything
ready. Many thanks to the local lads, Ben, George and Ryan who helped
out, brilliant effort.

The snow has gone but our permanent Christmas trees remain! They are
smaller than the usual temporary trees but they will grow and be a
permanent feature within the villages. We had a good turnout at the Lower
Cumberworth tree for the carol service, a fitting start for the young trees.
The village oak tree has been planted on the common land and will bloom
over time. The CCA has accepted feedback and decided not to put a bench
around the base. It looks good as it is, though is awaiting straightening.
One final word on support for CCA - we will require help this year for the
carnival and the bonfire. If you able to lend a hand then please let us know
by contacting myself or any member of the committee.
